Presence on the Web
Create a Blog with Word Press
I will attempt to give you hints in creating your own blog using WordPress. This is a perfect tool for use in the computer lab as I can post links for class work along with instructions. As a classroom blog you could post homework, information about projects and events, student work, just about anything you would send home on a piece of paper or tell your students.
- Go to www.wordpress.com to create an account.
- While learning this program I spent a lot of time at the FAQ section of the WordPress forums. Here is a link that is great for beginners. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/beginners-guide?replies=4
- The first page you get when you create your blog will be your home page and this is where all of your posts will appear. After that you can create additional pages for subjects or projects.
- When you pick a design for your pages, use the drop down menu and narrow the choices down by choosing a color or column design.
- Click this page to see a checklist that is helpful in creating your blog http://bloggersblurt.wordpress.com/2007/01/27/blog-review-checklist/
- Add a cluster map to show where your visitors are from http://www.clustrmaps.com/index.htm. After entering in your web address and email address copy the html code and then look for the link to instructions. There are specific directions for Word Press that are easy to follow.
